two atlantes

painted and gilded wood
Central Tibet, ca. 11th cent.
size each panel: 21 x 26 cm.

The style of these two panels is amazingly reminiscent to the famous woodcarvings in the Lhasa Jokhang-temple, dating from the 7th-8th cent. (and later).
The paint is of a much later date; the gilding could be of the original date.
