The local Hindu kingdoms of Western and Central India were slowly annexed by the Moslim Moghul empire. The small kingdom of Malwa had to move its capital in around 1700 to the newly build city of Narsinghgar, were a new style op court-painting developed: so became the size of each leave more oblong.
