Western Nepal (Dolpo), 16th cent.
size: 69 x 55 cm.

Satrig Erzang is one of the most important female deities in the Bonpo-pantheon. She is one of the Four Transcedental Lords.

Below a fierce Dharmapala, with, for Bonpo-iconography typical, animal-heads above his main head. Also typical Bonpo-features are the small human figures emerging from the mouths of the snowlions and dragons, supporting the prabhamandala.
The remaining space is filled with a multitude of seated Thönpa Shenrab.

ex: German private collection, acquired in the 1970’s with Schoettle, Stuttgart.
