a pair of banner-covers (gyal tshan)

silk brocade and silk appliqué and embroidered
Tibet, 19th cent.
high: 98 cm; diameter each: 27 cm.

these covers were meant for offering-banners on an altar; one gyal tshan was a cilinder of white, the other of black yak-hair.
in each cover the inscription: ha dge chos ldan rgyal mtshans phul.

Another, identical, pair is in the Bodhimanda-collection, The Netherlands, and has the same inscription.
