thangka of Mahakala

Tibet or Western Nepal (Dolpo), 16th cent.
size: 77 x 65 cm.

This thangka belongs to a larger series of Nyingma blackground-thangkas of various manifestations of Mahakala. Two of these are in the Musée Guimet in Paris (ex coll. Lionel Fournier), one in the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam, and two in the Basel Ethnographical Museum (ex. coll. G.W. Essen).
