pelgrimage map of Dragpa Shelri

paint on textile, in original mounting
Tibet, 19th cent.
size: 52 X 79 cm.

in the centre is the holy mountain, Drag pa shel ri (The Pure Crystal Mountain), situated in Tsari (Southeastern Tibet). This mountain is associated with Gampopa, and therefore with the Kagyu-tradition. Around the mountain different monasteries and pelgrimage-places. At the bottom left a monk doing rituals, in the presence of  lay-people and ceremonial dancers. Above the mountain the Adi Buddha Vajradhara, Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa and Milarepa.
Very interesting painting, in good condition. All the monasteries, holy places and mountains are inscribed.
