panel with the Saptaratna

painted wood
Tibet, early 20th cent.
size: 25 x 24 cm.

Depicted are, with a seated King in the centre, the Queen, the Minister, and below the general, elephant, horse, jewel and wheel of Law. As the Saptarana are the seven offerings to the Chakravartin, the Buddha as a wordly ruler, the depiction of a king the centre is logical. This panel must have been part of a piece of furniture, like a cabinet.
